What kind of gear is needed for wrestling?

Wrestler’s will need headgear and wrestling shoes which can be purchases at any sporting goods store. Our club might also have gently used shoes available to feel free to ask a board member to see what is left. Wrestling shoes are never to be worn outside. Wrestler’s will also need a team singlet which will be provided at the start of the season upon receipt of a singlet deposit. Wrestler’s should also wear long sleeves and pants to practice.

How does a round robin tournament work?

In a round robin tournament a wrestler competes with every wrestler in their bracket. The wrestler with the most wins takes first place.

What is double elimination?

Double elimination allows a wrestler to have a second chance if they lose their first match.

What can you expect at a regular season match?

When you arrive please check in with your coaches. Your son or daughter will be assigned numbers for each of their matches. Those numbers will be called or displayed in the gym to let you know when their match is coming up. The wrestlers will be called as “now wrestling”, “on-deck” which means they are next, or “in-the-hole”. If a coach isn’t already on the mat, make sure you go find one prior to the start of the match.

What is the proper etiquette during a match?

The only people allowed on the mats are coaches and referees. If your seat does not allow you to have a view of the match and you need to be on the floor, please be mindful of other spectators. Parents and other spectators are also expected to be respectful of our coaches, referees, the opposing teams, and any other guests.

How can I help?

Our team only runs with the help of our parents, board members, and volunteers. We are always looking for people to help assist with concessions during the matches, run the scoring tables, plan fundraisers, and more! If you are interested in helping please contact any of the coaches or board members. You can also keep an eye out for upcoming board meetings.
